Samar Merchant, a former model from Mumbai, had an active and glamorous lifestyle walking the ramps for many designers, local and foreign alike. He has been vacationing in Goa for most part of his life. As with many of Goa’s residents, he gravitated to the positive vibes and charm of India’s beach State; and finally decided to settle down here. Hailing from a family with a long history in the hospitality business, he had a keen insight of the market and began conceiving opening his own place.
The ubiquitous nature of water and its life sustaining quality has inspired many. Several years ago, when Samar was conceptualising his boutique hotel in Baga, ‘Waters’ was the name suggested by his older brother Azim Merchant. The name struck a chord and fit perfectly for Goa. Waters “Boutique” Guesthouse opened in December 2006.
However, Samar had bigger plans; to converge all one needs for a memorable experience in Goa under one roof. He envisioned a single destination that would cater to dining, partying, entertainment and relaxation.
Samar’s close friend, Sadar Mohammad, was managing food and beverage at Hyatt International in Dubai when he visited Goa on vacation at a time when Samar was idealising his dream project. Destiny had its way and a couple of months down the line, they two friends were working on the cliff-side at Ozran, where at the onset of season 2013-2014, an exclusive leisure space would arise.
The name ‘Waters’ followed its course as a beach lounge and grill. With a subtle theme of aqua spread across its many terraced levels, this new destination that features a coffee shop, restaurant, lounge, bar, pool, spa and an indoor club, is now on its way to fascinate the discerning populace.
The dream does not end here for the pair; Samar and Sadar have plans to take “Waters“ to the beaches of Ibiza and Koh Samui.
