Off the Chogm road, on one of Saligao's meandering streets, rests this abode of tranquility. Shanti Morada, a mélange of heritage, art and contemporary elements, is an extension of the culturally enriched society of its neigbourhood.
A towering clock highlights the property's building; a palette of colonial motifs set against a sunshine yellow facade. The reception area offers a glimpse into the assemblage of artifacts in the premises with wall hangings of prayers, figurines, azueljos and idols gracing the walls alongside antique Indian swings, trunks and cupboards. Gold plated switchboards, antique fans, exquisite art and memorabilia with hints of contemporary elements are recurring sights within the residence.
The pool area comprises the central courtyard of Shanti Morada, featuring one of the few Ozone pools in Goa - crystal clear water sans any chemicals; and a Jacuzzi Pool Bar which can accommodate up to 20 for some leisurely sundowners. Above the bar, is a Gazebo for private dining.
At the top end of the property, along the hill slope, a harmony garden called The Mandala has been created which houses dedicated sections for meditation, a yoga studio and a private massage hut surrounding a micro organic farm.
Shanti Morada has twenty rooms spread across two levels of the property. Each room is uniquely themed and decked with handpicked antiques, decor and furniture, some dating back 300 years. All rooms feature bay windows and outdoor balconies overlooking the gorgeous swimming pool. Extremely well appointed, all rooms have an array of modern amenities including flat screen LED television with satellite connection, Wi-Fi, telephone, mini-bar, electronic safe, coffee/tea maker et al, and of particular mention, the walk-in rain shower and claw footed copper bath tub.
Individually named with inspirations from Indian rivers, spices, flowers and fruits, there are two categories of rooms guests could choose from. A few interconnecting rooms are available, ideal for families.

The exclusive retreat offers a timeless experience to the discerning traveller, punctuated with memorabilia and moods from heydays of empires and colonial rule, styled in contemporary sophistication.
Four themed lounges are spread throughout the three levels of Shanti Morada. Barco Hull, the retro maritime themed lounge houses old boat hulls and artifacts refurbished as contemporary furniture. Past a few corridors, the glamorous Cue Lounge, overlooking a fine red pool table and the restaurant at ground level, boasts photographs of Hollywood yesteryears and an envious collection of vintage cigars, chillums and smoking pipes. An impressive painting of Lord Shiva presides religious motifs at the cozy Shiva Lounge. Further ahead, with a street view, is the Telhado, a roof lounge with copper and filigree furniture.
The in-house Lantern Restaurant is decorated in a namesake theme and serves up a delectable spread that caters to the whims of guests in a setting with fine China, plated crockery and cutlery in muted gold adding to the exquisite decor.
Circa 1897, Casa de Morada, translating to Home of Happiness was built in the quiet environs of Saligao. In a dilapidated condition, the property fell into the hands of Sanjana and Rajat Verma who had been scouting for a peaceful location in Goa for a concept hotel. It has been painstakingly restored over the last 8 years. During the site excavation, the authentic foundation cross of the original 1897 house was found, and this has been restored to its original location within the compound wall. A wrought iron grill was also found during construction, the motif of which is used as the model for all grill and pattern work across the property.
Shanti Morada is the second business venture from Shanti Boutique Hotels. A Delhi based company owned by Sanjana and Rajat Verma, it has won several awards and accolades; and hearts of many. Peace of mind, spirituality and human touch are aspects imbibed into their hospitality philosophy that has remained consistent since its inception.
Beginning with Shanti Home, what has been endorsed as one of Delhi's premier boutique hotels, the brand has come a long way and has exciting developments in the pipeline.
